(Los Angeles, CA - For Immediate Release) Twin Galaxies International and G4 Media, Inc. are proud to announce national television coverage of Steve Wiebe's attempt to reclaim the Donkey Kong World Record. The event is taking place today as part of the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) from the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Twin Galaxies is on-hand for this historic live airing of a World Record attempt, which will be airing on the G4 Network. This marks the first time ever a World Record Attempt of a video game has ever been aired live on national television. Twin Galaxies Chief Evangelist Walter Day, Director of Adjudication Services David Nelson and Director of Marketing Patrick Scott Patterson will be in attendance to verify Steve's world record attempt and to provide live commentary of Steve's progress.
Washington state native Steve Wiebe came onto the scene at Twin Galaxies nearly 6 years ago when he took the Donkey Kong World Record from New York's Tim Sczerby. The scores submitted by Steve drew the attention of former champion Billy Mitchell of Florida, one of the most accomplished gamers of the "Classic Era" from the early 1980s. The back-and-forth battle that followed became the subject matter for the 2007 film The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, which originally came out in a limited theatrical release, only to gain mainstream attention after it's 2008 release on DVD and airings on G4 television.
The movie ended with Steve regaining the record with a score of 1,049,100 points, but it was Mitchell who came out on top in June of 2007, where he gained 1,050,200 points at a live event. Wiebe has been criss-crossing the country ever since in attempts to reclaim the record at various live events.
We wish Steve the best of luck today in his efforts to reclaim the Donkey Kong world record. Tune in to TwinGalaxies.com for the latest news on this event.
